Meta Snapshot Summary

Updated 8/25 – Small b-patch update!! Check out Augments guide as well for this patch and the Portal Guide

TLDR STRATEGY: How I’m going to play the patch

  1. What I’m doing: Flex play with Rageblade. Go Aphelios, Kaisa/Kalista comps or anything that can use Rageblade.
  2. Second Strategy: anything else
    • Go Urf
      • Yolo your tome early. Prefer Piltover for massive loss streak
      • Alternatives: Void, Shadow Isles, Challenger, Bastion, Sorcs, Noxus, Shurima just force whatever comp the tome gives you
    • Garen Reroll every game. It’s not optimal, but it’s simple

We’ve brought Voids1n back to show us Set 9 comps. He is the Set 5 MSI winner and reaches top 10 every set. Catch his streams on Twitch or get coaching from him!

All legends work, and the difference between the tiers is VERY LOW because you can just reroll the augment. Different legends fit different players as well. The better TFT player will do better with any legend. Check out the Legend Guide for more info.

For subrankings such as + and – tiers, check out my Patreon or OnlyFans (no NSFW images and the two sites will have the same info) where you will get precise rankings. Also you can DM for extra tips there 😉

Note that Items don’t really matter that much, so don’t grief your game to get specific items unless I mention a specific item is required.

Try out different types of positioning and champions in these comps too! There is a ton of variation in TFT so be sure to check out the Core units and then flex the rest of your team!

TFT Comps Tier List Set 9

S Tier: Best TFT Comps – Highly Flexible or Very Strong

Challengers

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Challengers is once again the most reliable 4 cost carry comp, but it does require pretty specific items.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

Item Holder: Samira, Tristana, Warwick
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends: Poro, Vlad

How to Play: Much like Duelists of Set 8, Challengers is a high tempo comp. It is important to establish a strong early game as you may not be able to beat out top comps that have infinite stall. However, if you can upgrade your carries early and can push a winstreak, this comp can do very well, especially if you have items for both Yasuo and Kai’Sa. Kalista can be used a third carry, and can carry attack speed items far better than Kai’Sa can because her damage scales off of more Spears whereas Kai’Sa wants more raw damage to actually kill carries.

Items:

  • Kai’Sa items: Spear of Shojin, Jeweled Guantlet, Guardbreaker, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Giant Slayer, Archangel’s Staff, Hextech Gunblade, Hand of Justice
  • Yasuo items: Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Giant Slayer, Hand of Justice, Infinite Edge, Deathblade, Guardbreaker
  • Locket of Iron Solari/Tank items on Shen

Core:

  • 6 Challenger

Augments:

Deadeye

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Both Aphelios variations are pretty good right now, but there’s an up and coming variation with Master Yi and Pumping Up as your first augment.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

  • AD items for Aphelios

Item Holder: Jhin, Tristana, Ashe
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Anyone
Best Legends: Twisted Fate, Poro,

How to Play:
Aphelios seems to be one of, if not, the most reliable AD flex comps right now. Since general flex play oftentimes results in a 2* 4 cost carry, Aphelios is very popular for those who pursue an AD line. Look for good early game AD item holders like Jhin, Tristana and Ashe and play flexibly around what frontline upgrades you have, whether it be Bruiser, Bastion, Demacia, etc.

Late game you can play the standard board shown above but sometimes you will find more useful upgrades than 4 Deadeye, or important 5 cost units, but the core of this comp is Aphelios, Sejuani, Shen and Urgot.

Items:

  • Aphelios items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Giant Slayer, Last Whisper, Infinity Edge, Deathblade, Guardbreaker
  • Urgot items: Thief’s Gloves, Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Tank items
  • Tank items on Sej and Shen

Core:

  • 2/4 Deadeye, 3 Freljord

Augments:

Teaming Up, You Have My Sword, You Have My Bow, Harmacist, Level Up, Red Buff, Healing Orbs, Pandora’s Items,

Counters

Aphelios Bastion

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Aphelios Bastion was extremely strong last patch, but it’s still top tier this patch after the nerfs.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

  • AD items for Aphelios, Vladimir legend

Item Holder: Kalista, Jhin, Tristana, Ashe, Jinx
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Anyone
Best Legends: Vladimir

How to Play: Since you’re taking Transfusion in 99% of scenarios when playing this comp, the default playstyle is to play for a 5 lose streak early game to start getting Transfusion value. If possible, try to hold onto Bastion units along the way, but if it’s necessary to sell them to secure a 5 loss, do so. By lose streaking, you can go for Bow off carousel as you need 2 of them to make Double Guinsoo’s Rageblade for Aphelios later on. Midgame, Kalista should be your Guinsoo’s holder and you should play 4 Bastion. When you reach level 7, you should roll for at least 1 Aphelios and 1 Shen. Because Bastion and Transfusion Health stalls while the Double Guinsoo’s scales, Ascension is the perfect augment to complement this comp.

Items:

  • Aphelios items: 2x Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Deathblade, Giant Slayer, Guardbreaker
  • Tank items on Shen

Core:

  • 4/6/8 Bastion, 2 Deadeye

Augments: Transfusion, Ascension, Bastion Crown, Bastion Crest

Counters

Shadow Isles

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Shadow Isle is S tier with an Emblem, and if you take Urf legend, you can pretty reasonably get Shadow Isle Emblem.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 3 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • 3* Kalista

Item Holder: Kayle, Samira,
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Shen, K’sante, Kaisa, Yasuo
Best Legends:

How to Play:
If you have attack speed items and/or an early Kalista 2*, you can look to play this comp as it performs rather well. You don’t necessarily need a Kalista 3, but it definitely helps. Look to roll at level 7 for Kalista 2, Gwen and your other units, and decide if it’s worth staying at level 7 to look for Kalista 3 or econning up and pushing levels.

Items:

  • Kalista items: Giant Slayer, Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Hextech Gunblade, Hand of Justice, Guardbreaker
  • Gwen items: AP items, Titan’s Resolve, Hand of Justice, Bloodthirster, Blue Buff
  • Aatrox items: Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Tank
  • Yasuo items: Thief’s Gloves, Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Hand of Justice

Core:

  • 4 Shadow Isle 4 Challengers

Augments:

Shadow Isles Crown, Healing Orbs I, Cybernetic Leech, March of Progress, Golden Ticket, Social Distancing, Unified Resistance

A Tier: Solid TFT Team Comps. Weaker, less flexible, requires more luck than S-Tier

Yasuo Ionia

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Essentially similar to Challengers, this comp also got hit by the Kai’Sa nerfs.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

  • Yasuo items, Secondary carry

Item Holder: Warwick, Zed
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Bel’veth, Aatrox, Kai’Sa
Best Legends: Ornn, Ezreal

How to Play: Generally to play this comp you typically transition from a partial Ionia start into a full Ionia board or from Challengers. Since your carries and your most important units are 4 costs, it’s important to play a strong early game, build economy and then get your endgame board online either at level 7 or 8. Yasuo needs a lot of bruiser items as he tends to die quite often, so often you want Bloodthirster + Titan’s Resolve and/or Edge of Night.

You should look for a secondary carry, so if you have leftover Attack Speed AD items look to slot in Aphelios, whereas if you have more AP centered items look to slot in Kai’Sa or Lux.

Items:

  • Yasuo items: Bloodthirster, Edge of Night, Titan’s Resolve, Hand of Justice, Giant Slayer, Infinity Edge, Deathblade
  • Aphelios items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Giant Slayer, Last Whisper, Infinity Edge, Deathblade, Guardbreaker
  • Kai’Sa items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Statikk Shiv, Archangel’s Staff, Guardbreaker, Morellonomicon
  • Tank items on Shen

Core:

  • 6 Ionia

Augments: Ionia Crown, Level Up, Jeweled Lotus, Sentinel Spirit, Gifts from the Fallen, Long Distance Pals, Unified Resistance, Battle Ready, Cybernetic Leech

Counters

Karma Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

This comp is on the rise again, if you hit an early Ahri and/or 3* Karma it’s very strong.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 3 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • 3* Karma

Item Holder: Cassiopeia
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Ahri, Legendaries
Best Legends:

How to Play: Gameplay
Since this is primarily a 3 cost reroll comp, our main objective is to go to level 7 either healthy and/or with good economy. Because we want 3* Karma, 3* Lissandra and ideally 3* Taric, we will need a lot of resources to help us hit our units.

Use Cassiopeia early game as your Karma item holder, and play flexibly around frontline/utilty units. You can play around Brawlers, Bastions, or whatever else early game and then pivot into the final board that you see above. 3* units are very important, so try to hit those before pushing level 8.

Items:

  • Karma items: Hextech Gunblade, Hand of Justice, Archangel Staff, Giant Slayer, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Guantlet,
  • Lissandra items: Morellonomicon, Archangel Staff, Spear of Shojin, Thief’s Gloves
  • Tank items on Taric, Shen, Galio

Core:

  • 6 Invoker

Augments: Golden Ticket, March of Progress, Social Distancing, Loving Invocation, Magic Wand, Trade Sector, Pandora’s Items, Unified Resistance, Rolling for Days

Counters

Sorcerers

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Sorcs are still very good, easily one of the most simple and effective AP comps.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Patterns: Standard

Requirements:

  • AP items

Item Holder: Malzahar, Cassiopeia, Vel’koz
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Sona > Jarvan
Best Legends: Ezreal

How to Play:
Since your carry is Lux, which is a 4 cost, you must learn to navigate the early game with an AP focused carry. That could be Malzahar, Cassiopeia, Vel’Koz, etc until you find a Lux. Try to play a strong board early game to get to level 7 safely. Otherwise, if your early board is weak, try to lose streak to build econ. At Stage 4-1, if your HP is low and you are not that rich, look to roll down for at least 1 Lux and 2* copies of your Sorceror units. Your late game should involve Lux and Ahri duo carry.

Items:

  • Lux items: Blue Buff, Jeweled Guantlet, Guardbreaker, Hand of Justice, Archangel Staff, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Hextech Gunblade, Giant Slayer, Spear of Shojin
  • Ahri items: Blue Buff, Jeweled Guantlet, Guardbreaker, Hand of Justice, Archangel Staff, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Hextech Gunblade, Giant Slayer, Spear of Shojin
  • Sona items: Chalice of Power, Morellonomicon, Spear of Shojin, AP items
  • Tank items on Swain/Taric
  • Tank items on Jarvan

Core:

  • 6 or 8 Sorc

Augments:

Buried Treasures, Sorceror Crown, Sorceror Emblem, Magic Wand, Long Distance Pals, Healing Orbs, Unified Resistance, Pandora’s Items,

Counters

Strategist Azir/Lux

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

This comp, if you hit all the 2* 4 cost units, has one of the highest caps in the game but since it’s so expensive, it can’t be S tier.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

  • Azir and Lux items

Item Holder: Cassiopeia, Malzahar Taliyah, Kalista, Vel’Koz
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Lux, Jarvan
Best Legends: N/A

How to Play: Generally to play this you play with any early AP or attack speed user and slam good early game items such as Statikk Shiv and Guinsoo’s Rageblade. With the Draven legend nerfs, the meta will most likely revert back to a roll at level 7 meta, so it is important to try to keep high economy and/or HP to make it to Stage 4-1 with enough gold to roll for at least 1* copies of your carries. Early game, try to hold Strategist units, especially Swain. A Swain 2 can stabilize your midgame pretty easily and your backline carries could range anything from Cassiopeia to Multicasters to Sorcerers early game.

Items:

  • Azir items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Statikk Shiv, Archangel’s Staff, Guardbreaker,
  • Lux items: Blue Buff, Giant Slayer, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Hextech Gunblade, Archangel’s Staff, Guardbreaker,
  • Nasus items: Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Hand of Justice, Tank items
  • Jarvan items: Tank items

Core:

  • 4 Strategist 3 Shurima 3 Demacia

Augments: Shurima’s Legacy, Social Distancing, Level Up, Jeweled Lotus, Gifts from the Fallen, Long Distance Pals, Unified Resistance, Battle Ready, Cybernetic Leech

Void Kai’Sa

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Kai’Sa and Void got buffed. You definitely need to highroll this comp to do well as well as get an early Bel’Veth. Seems to conditional to be S tier.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

  • Kai’Sa items

Item Holder: Malzahar
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Legendary/Anyone
Best Legends: Urf

How to Play: Void seems to be a rather simple comp that relies on getting a Void start early game. If you get an early 2* Cho’Gath and/or Malzahar and can get a +1 Void augment, then all you need to do is just go for 3 and then 6 Void ASAP. The entire premise of this comp is to get to Kai’Sa with a decent amount of HP, then scale into 6 or even 8 Void lategame with upgraded high cost units like Bel’Veth, Sion, Kai’Sa and Sejuani.

Items:

  • Kai’Sa items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Statikk Shiv, Archangel’s Staff, Guardbreaker, Morellonomicon
  • Bel’Veth items: Thief’s Gloves, Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Last Whisper, Infinity Edge, Deathblade, Giant slayer
  • Tank items on rest

Core:

  • 6 Void

Augments: Void augments

Counters

Noxus Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Noxus used to be really good when Samira was oppressive, but it’s too conditional (You HAVE to get Darius 2* early Stage 3, you HAVE to have Darius and Katarina 3* to place top 2)

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 3 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Early Noxus upgrades

Item Holder: Samira, Kled, Cassiopeia
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Noxus: Azir, Nasus Juggernaut: Katarina
Best Legends: Lee sin, Twisted Fate, Ornn

How to Play: Gameplay
Noxus is a bit more reliant on having a strong Noxus opener because of the importance of securing stacks. If you can get stacks early it snowballs your game into a spot where you winstreak, gain a lot of econ and have a lot of safety rolling for your 3* Darius and Katarina. What’s nice about this comp is that you can split your AP and AD items amongst your duo carry, and the only real dependence this comp has is to play off of a Noxus opener. When you hit your 3* units, look to put in useful 5 costs such as Aatrox and Ryze if his variant is good.

Items:

  • Katarina items: Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Guardbreaker,
  • Darius items: Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Giant Slayer, Deathblade, Infinity Edge
  • Tank items on Sion

Core:

  • 6 Noxus

Counters

Demacia

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Demacia seemed really top tier in the beginning of last patch, but it’s actually too conditional to consistently do well.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern:

Requirements:

Item Holder:
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends:

How to Play: Much like Void, Demacia comp is easier to play with a Demacia opener. Otherwise, you might have to be a bit more creative with your early game to pivot into it later .Early game, you can use a Noxus opener and use Cassiopeia to carry Lux items and Samira/Darius/Kled to carry Garen items. Make sure to hold Demacia units on the bench! Midgame you can then transition to a Demacia + Juggernaut board once you find Garen. At level 7, try to find Garen 2* and Lux. Any tank items can just go on Jarvan IV. Lategame, look to play 7 Demacia or drop down to 5 Demacia and add in useful 5 cost units like Heimerdinger, Aatrox, Senna and Ryze (depending on Portal).

Items: **MAKE SURE YOUR CARRIES ONLY GET 2 ITEMS EACH SO THEY CAN GET A RADIANT ITEM FROM DEMACIA**

  • Garen items: Bloodthirster, Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Titan’s Resolve, Hand of Justice
  • Lux items: Blue Buff, Jeweled Gauntlet, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Archangel’s Staff, Guardbreaker,
  • Jarvan items: Tank items

Core:

  • 5/7 Demacia, 2 Juggernaut

Shurima

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

With the Shurima buffs, if you get a +1 Shurima this comp can easily be low S tier to be honest.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

Item Holder: Cassiopeia, Kayle, Teemo, Taliyah
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends:

How to Play:
With Azir as an AP + Attack Speed based carry, you can flex between Shurima and Kai’Sa Void comps since their items are very similar. If you have a heavy Shurima start or you get an early Azir, you can look to pivot or commit to Shurima. Since it is a vertical (high # Synergy) comp, it is simple to play, just make sure you as many Shurima as you can. Make sure to play strongest board until you can reach your 5/7 Shurima.

Items:

  • Azir: Giant Slayer, Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Archangel Staff, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Guantlet, Guardbreaker, Hextech Gunblade, Hand of Justice
  • Nasus: Thief’s Gloves, Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Tank items
  • Tank items on Shen

Core:

  • 5/7 Shurima (7 preferred)

Rek’Sai Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Rek’Sai is very strong if you can get her to 3*! Easy and consistent comp to play. Will move her down to A+ because you need 3* Rek’Sai with good items and augments to place well.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 3 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • 3* Rek’Sai

Item Holder: Samira, Viego
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Lissandra
Best Legends: Ornn, Poro, Vlad

How to Play: Gameplay
Since this is primarily a 3 cost reroll comp, our main objective is to go to level 7 either healthy and/or with good economy. Because we want 3* Rek’Sai, and sometimes 3* Lissandra, we want to greed as much gold interest as possible without sacrificing too much HP.

Use Samira + Noxus early game as your Rek’Sai item holder, and remember to hold Bruiser units as you plan to transition to 6 Bruisers at level 7.

Items:

  • Rek’Sai items: Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Hand of Justice, Infinity Edge, Giant Slayer
  • Lissandra items: Morellonomicon, Archangel Staff, Spear of Shojin, Thief’s Gloves
  • Tank items on Sejuani, Sion

Core:

  • 6 Bruiser

Augments: Bruiser Crown, Bruiser Crest, Bruiser Heart, Golden Ticket, March of Progress, Martyr, Transfusion, Trade Sector, Unified Resistance, Cybernetic Leech

Counters

Gunners

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

With the nerfs to Zaun, Zeri and Urgot, this comp is only S tier with a 2-1 Piltover Opener.

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: Standard

Requirements:

  • Good Frontline

Item Holder: Jhin, Tristana, Ashe
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Urgot, Ekko, Legendaries
Best Legends: Twisted Fate, Bard

How to Play:
This comp is the other flexible AD comp, and usually is a result of having an early Gunner start, whether it be through units or augments or both. The best start for this comp is a 2-1 or 2-2 Piltover start. If you get Piltover early, try to play for a lose-streak until at least Stage 3-5. Then, try to level up to 7 to roll for upgraded Gunners and other means of cashing out like Urgot, Zeri, Aphelios, Sejuani, etc. Zeke’s Herald is a good item in this comp because it stacks AD quicker, but make sure you have a good frontline to buy time for your Gunners to scale.

Once again, early game item holders are Jhin, Tristana and Ashe as far as 1 and 2 cost units go, and make sure to play around whatever upgraded frontline you can get until you get to Sej/Shen. If you can, use Jinx to carry items for Zeri and find a replacement Jinx later.

This comp really shines when you can get 6 Zaun through a +1 Zaun Emblem. If you get the Chemtech Explosion mod on a Jarvan IV with a Warmog’s he will one shot the entire board when he dies. If you get Robotic Arm, it is incredibly strong on Zeri!

Late game you typically play 4 Zaun, 2 Gunner + Freljord, 4 Gunner + Freljord. or 6 Zaun + Gunners.

Items:

  • Zeri items: Giant Slayer, Last Whisper, Infinity Edge, Deathblade, Guardbreaker, Guinsoo’s Rageblade
  • Urgot items: Bloodthirster, Titan’s Resolve, Tank items
  • Jayce items: Thief’s Gloves, Zeke’s Herald
  • Senna items: Rageblade, Giant Slayer, AD items

Core:

  • 4 Gunner

Augments:

Dueling Gunners, Teaming Up, Cybernetic Leech, You Have My Sword, Harmacist, Pandora’s Items, Red Buff

Samira/Cassiopeia Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

This comp is a consistent top 4 unless you lowroll super hard because of how hard Noxus stabilizes early game.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 1 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Lots of 3* units

Item Holder: Samira/Cass
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Warwick
Best Legends: Lee Sin, Ornn, Poro

How to Play: Gameplay
Since this is a 1 cost reroll comp, it is almost always recommended to roll to 30g at 3-1 at level 4 for as many copies of the Samira and Cassiopeias as possible. Of course you want to hold onto other Noxus units as well. Then, try to build your economy back up and slowroll at level 5 above 50 gold for your 3* units. Once you get Samira and Cassiopeia 3*, look to push level 6 for 6 Noxus. At level 7, put in Warwick for Challenger and Juggernaut.

Items:

  • Samira items: Blue Buff, Infinity Edge, Deathblade, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Guardbreaker
  • Cassiopeia items: Blue Buff, Jeweled Gauntlet, Guardbreaker, Hextech Gunblade, Giant Slayer
  • Tank items on Swain

Core:

  • 6 Noxus 2 Challenger 2 Juggernaut

Akshan Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Akshan’s interaction with Runaan’s Hurricane (which is still good) got nerfed but he got buffed, so he’s still very strong

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 3 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • AD items on Akshan

Item Holder: Jhin, Samira, Jinx
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends: Vlad, Poro

How to Play: Gameplay
Since this is a 3 cost reroll comp, ideally you try to level to 7 and slowroll for 3*. However, to get there, try to play strongest board and/or build your economy through interest thresholds so that you can set yourself up for success. Sometimes, if your board is weak early, you probably want to sack (lose streak) the entirety of Stage 2 and the first half of Stage 3. Then, level to 7 at 3-5 with the economy you’ve built to roll for 2* Akshan and some other upgrades like Lissandra 2.

If you have a Last Whisper, Freljord is not completely necessary, but since Lissandra is typically rerolled along with Akshan you might as well keep it.

Items:

  • Akshan items: Runaan’s Hurricane, Deathblade, Infinity Edge, Giant Slayer, Guardbreaker, Hand of Justice
  • Lissandra items: Morellonomicon, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Spear of Shojin, Hextech Gunblade, Archangel’s Staff, Guardbreaker, Giant Slayer,
  • Nasus items: Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Hand of Justice, Tank items
  • Jarvan/Sejuani: Tank items

Core:

  • 2 Deadeye 3 Shurima 3 Freljord

Augments: Shurima’s Legacy, Long Distance Pals, Unified Resistance, Cybernetic Leech, Cruel Pact, Golden Ticket, Final Ascension, Social Distancing, Cybernetic Leech I, Army Building

Got buffed a bit recently

Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern:

Requirements:

Item Holder:
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends:

How to Play: To play this, obviously you don’t want any units with traits in, so the most important thing is playing high quality units. Early game, usually this means just any traitless upgraded units, but as you approach midgame, look to use 3 costs to carry your offensive and defensive items. For example, Akshan can carry AD items and Karma can carry AP items. Late game will involve a LOT of 2* 4 cost units, so it’s important to build our economy well early game to set ourselves up for success.

Items:

  • Kai’Sa items: Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Statikk Shiv, Archangel’s Staff, Guardbreaker, Morellonomicon
  • Aphelios: AD and attack speed items
  • Gwen items: Thief’s Gloves, AP/Bruiser items

Item Holder: Tristana
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Anyone
Best Legends: Lee Sin

How to Play: Gameplay | Gameplay 2
Since Yordles is a 1 cost reroll comp, it is almost always recommended to slowroll at level 5 above 50 gold for your 3* units. However, it is very dependent on how many 1 cost units you have. The highest priority 3* units are Maokai, Tristana, and Poppy so if you get those to 3* early while not being close to 3 starring your other units, it’s best to push levels to find Heimerdinger.

Items:

  • Tristana items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Giant Slayer, Last Whisper, Infinity Edge, Deathblade, Guardbreaker
  • Teemo items: Blue Buff, AP items
  • Tank items on Maokai + Poppy

Core:

  • 3 Yordle 4 Gunner

Augments:

Golden Ticket, Radiant Relics, Social Distancing, Long Distance Partners, Morning Light, Healing Orbs, On a Roll, Harmacist

Teemo Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Teemo is actually not bottom of the barrel anymore! WIth the teemo buffs he’s actually pretty respectable as a carry.

Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 2 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • 3* Teemo and Swain

Item Holder:
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends:

How to Play: Since this is primarily a 2 cost reroll comp, we should look to 3* our units at level 6 for the best odds. This means that we will build our economy until we hit level 6 and then roll down for 2* units to stabilzie our board, Look to put in 4 Multicaster after hitting your yordles.

Items:

  • Teemo items: Blue Buff, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Hand of Justice, Guardbreaker, Archangel Staff, Jeweled Gauntlet
  • Sona items: Chalice of Power, Morellonomicon
  • Velkoz items: Statikk Shiv, AP items

B Tier: Playable, but not Preferred. These comps could be strong if uncontested.

Ravenous Hunter Warwick

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

This augment has been pretty average as of late, especially with the Bastion frontlines nowadays. You absolutely need Ravenous Hunter augment though.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Patterns: 2 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Ravenous Hunter augment

Item Holder: Samira, Warwick
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends: Ezreal, Lee Sin

How to Play: Gameplay
Since this is a primarily 2 cost reroll comp, you should build you economy up early by hitting your 10 gold intervals as fast as possible and prepare to level to 6 at Stage 3-2 to roll for 2* upgrades of your units. Then, you should build your economy back up and slowroll above 50g while maintaining max interest for 3* Warwick. If you get a lot of copies of Sett you might as well try to 3* him as well, but keep in mind that Warwick is by far the highest priority unit. Sett is not as important. If you hit Warwick faster than Sett and you are far from Sett 3*, look to level up to add in Yasuo and Kai’Sa eventually.

Items:

  • Warwick items: Rapidfire Cannon, Giant Slayer, Quicksilver, Titan’s Resolve, Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Guardbreaker
  • Kai’Sa items: Stattik Shiv, Morellonomicon, Jeweled Guantlet, Guardbreaker, Hand of Justice, Archangel Staff, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Hextech Gunblade, Giant Slayer, Spear of Shojin
  • Yasuo items: Rapidfire Cannon, Edge of Night, Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, AD items
  • Tank items on Sett

Core:

  • 6 Challenger

Augments:

Ravenous Hunter, Buried Treasures, Golden Ticket, Scoped Weapons, Long Distance Pals, Blood Money, Pandora’s items, Transfusion

Jinx Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

It seems Jinx reroll has fallen out of flavor a bit.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 2 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Jinx 3*

Item Holder: Samira, Tristana
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends: Ezreal, Lee Sin, Twisted Fate

How to Play:
Since this is a primarily 2 cost reroll comp, you should build you economy up early by hitting your 10 gold intervals as fast as possible and prepare to level to 6 at Stage 3-2 to roll for 2* upgrades of your units. Then, you should build your economy back up and slowroll above 50g while maintaining max interest for 3* Jinx and Vi. Runaan’s Hurricane can now proc off of Jinx’s ult so it’s pretty important to have that item. Level up for 4 Zaun and 4 Gunner eventually.

Items:

  • Jinx items: Runaan’s Hurricane, Infinity Edge, Last Whisper, Giant Slayer, Hand of Justice
  • Vi items: Tank items
  • Urgot items: Gunner Emblem/Bruiser/Tank items

Kayle Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Kayle is really good if you hit your units relatively early and can push levels ASAP.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 1 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Lots of 3* units

Item Holder: Kayle
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Anyone
Best Legends: Lee Sin

How to Play: Gameplay
Since Kayle is a 1 cost reroll comp, it is almost always recommended to roll to 30g at 3-1 at level 4 for as many copies of the Kayle, Maokai and Poppy as possible. You don’t even have to upgrade Galio and Kled yet. Then, try to build your economy back up and slowroll at level 5 above 50 gold for your 3* units. The obvious highest priority 3* units are Kayle, Poppy and Maokai. Once you 3* those units, level up to add in Yordle and keep leveling up to add in more Slayers.

Items:

  • Kayle items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Rapidfire Cannon, Quicksilver, Hextech Gunblade, Giant Slayer, Guardbreaker, Jeweled Gauntlet, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Archangel Staff
  • Tank items on Poppy

Core:

Requirements:

  • Riftwalker, Kassadin 3*

Item Holder: Kassadin
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:

How to Play: Gameplay
Since the only unit we’re looking to 3* is a 2 cost, you should build you economy up early by hitting your 10 gold intervals as fast as possible and prepare to level to 6 at Stage 3-2 to roll for 2* upgrades of your units. Then, you should build your economy back up and slowroll above 50g while maintaining max interest for 3* Kassadin. After you hit, look to add in more Bastions while you level up.

Ekko Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Like most reroll comps, if you can get your Ekko and Katarina 3* you will be very strong!

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 3 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Jeweled Gauntlet

Item Holder:
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends:

How to Play: If you get a Piltover early and have AP items, look to play this comp. Like any other 3 cost reroll comp, ideally we want to get our 2* 3 cost units at level 7 and then build our economy back up to above 50g (max interest) to slowroll for our 3* units. It is important to play your early game in a way that preserves HP and gold in the most efficient way possible. If needed, roll at 6 for upgrades/units to avoid taking too much damage in Stage 3. Ekko 2* with Jeweled Gauntlet and Hand of Justice should stabilze for a bit, but to contest top comps late game obviously we need 3*. The reason we want two Hand of Justices is because of the extra Omnivamp potential and the extra damage, of course.

Items:

  • Ekko items: Hand of Justice, Jeweled Guantlet, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Guardbreaker, Archangel Staff
  • Katarina items: Hand of Justice, Jeweled Guantlet, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Guardbreaker, Archangel Staff
  • Tank items on rest

Core:

  • 2 Rogue 2 Zaun 3 Freljord

Augments: Golden Ticket, On a Roll, Jeweled Lotus, Idealism, March of Progress, Cybernetic Leech, Unified Resistance, Harmacist

Multicaster Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Even with the buffs, Multicasters don’t really seem that impressive, but will need more time to make an accurate judgment of this comp’s placement. Even with the buffs it seems to require too much to come online compared to the meta comps.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 3 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Good economy

Item Holder: Cassiopeia, Malzahar
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder: Sorcerer: Sona
Best Legends: Lee Sin, Twisted Fate, Ornn

How to Play: This comp is incredibly strong if you hit your 3* Sona + Vel’Koz and have good augments.

Items:

  • Vel’Koz items: Blue Buff, Archangel Staff, Giant Slayer, Hextech Gunblade, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Guardbreaker, Hand of Justice

Zed Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

With nerfs to 4 cost comps, this comp rises to S tier. It was already good last patch!

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern: 2 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Zed 3*

Item Holder: Viego, Samira, Tristana, Zed
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:

How to Play: Since this is a primarily 2 cost reroll comp, you should build you economy up early by hitting your 10 gold intervals as fast as possible and prepare to level to 6 at Stage 3-2 to roll for 2* upgrades of your units. Then, you should build your economy back up and slowroll above 50g while maintaining max interest for 3* Zed. If you get a lot of copies of Kled and Sett you might as well try to 3* them as well, but keep in mind the main carries of this comp are Zed and Katarina.

Items:

  • Katarina items: Giant Slayer, Ionic Spark, Archangel Staff, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Guantlet, Guardbreaker, Hextech Gunblade, Hand of Justice
  • Zed items: Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Hand of Justice, Giant Slayer, Hand of Justice, Infinite Edge, Deathblade, Guardbreaker

Rogue Reroll

TFT Set 9 Tier List - Patch 13.16b Meta Snapshot

Rogues used to be very strong in PBE, but now they are kind of average in terms of strength.

Difficulty: Low
Item/Augment Dependence: Medium
Variance: Medium
Leveling Pattern:

Requirements:

  • 3* Zed and Katarina

Item Holder:
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:
Best Legends:

How to Play:
Even though Rogue did get a bit of a nerf early on in PBE, it is decently strong due to the snowball nature of these units. If you’re in a rough spot early game, look to roll at level 6 to hit your upgrades, but since Katarina and Ekko are both 3 costs, it would make sense to slowroll above 50g for your 3* units, however that situation is only allowed if you are highrolling.

Items:

  • Katarina items: Giant Slayer, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Jeweled Guantlet, Guardbreaker, Hextech Gunblade, Hand of Justice, Archangel Staff
  • Zed items: Bloodthirster, Giant Slayer, Hand of Justice, Infinite Edge, Deathblade, Guardbreaker, Last Whisper, Titan’s Resolve
  • Ekko items: Thief’s Gloves, AP items
  • Locket of Iron Solari/Tank items on Kled

Core:

  • 4 Rogue

Augments:

Golden Ticket, On a Roll, Cybernetic Leech, Gifts From Above, Radiant Relics

Leveling Pattern: 2 Cost Reroll

Requirements:

  • Taliyah and Sett 3*

Item Holder: Cassiopeia, Malzahar, Taliyah
Best Emblem/Spatula Holder:

How to Play: This is mainly played with the Double Trouble augment, so if you happen to see it at 2-1 you should consider playing this comp. Since this is a primarily 2 cost reroll comp, you should build you economy up early by hitting your 10 gold intervals as fast as possible and prepare to level to 6 at Stage 3-2 to roll for 2* upgrades of your units. Then, you should build your economy back up and slowroll above 50g while maintaining max interest for 3* Taliyah and Sett. If you get a lot of copies of Teemo you should go for it as well so you can get Double Trouble value on him as well.

FAQ

  • How are compositions ranked?
    • There are many factors, but the two strongest ones are how often they can be played and how strong they are when you get it. Think of it like frequency of being played combined with how well it can potentially do.
    • I also rank them based on how often the best players in the world play each comp (top 10 players in major regions)
  • Why isn’t XYZ Comp here?
    • Probably not played enough, not strong enough, or maybe it hasn’t been discovered yet and will hopefully be added next week.
    • It’s also impossible to fit every single variation of every composition on a tier list, so expect variations of these comps to do well too.
    • I also add in different versions of different comps in the notes, so be sure to read through them! (For example, one synergy might have two different playstyles such as reroll or standard)
  • [Legendary Unit] carry is the best in the game, where is it?
    • It is not reliable to have a 5 cost carry as a composition because you will not be able to get a 2* Legendary consistently. There may be metas where there are ‘Fast 9’ comps, but these often use any legendary they can get instead of a specific one.
  • What does Difficulty, Item Dependency, and Variance mean?
    • Difficulty is how hard the composition is to play.  Difficulty does not factor into the strength or viability of the composition but serves as a factor for new players.
    • Item dependency is how important specific items are to the composition.
    • Variance is the approximate placement range of the composition.  For example, a consistent Top 4 composition has Low variance.  A composition that either places 1st or 8th has a High variance.
  • Does what composition I play matter?
    • No. Playing TFT well matters a lot more
  • I can’t get these exact items every game
    • You don’t need perfect items or exact items unless specified in the Requirements section. Most of the time you just need ‘playable’ items and not ‘best in slot’ (BIS)
  • You are wrong, XYZ comp should be in S tier and ABC player said this S tier comp sucks
    • Everyone has different opinions. I try to take a data based approach by analyzing games from the best players in each region to combine all their opinions.
    • At the end of the day, comp doesn’t matter much compared to just playing TFT well (rolling, managing econ, positioning, etc). If you check out the best players, you will see that each player favors different compositions yet they are all very highly ranked.
  • When is this site updated?
    • Every Friday
  • Where can I learn more?
    • There are many resources and players to learn from. I suggest starting at my YouTube channel and this website.

Knowing how to get better at TFT is much more important than knowing what compositions to play. Knowing how to play Teamfight Tactics will help you no matter what patch it is.

Tier placement assumes strong play.  Refer to Difficulty metric before attempting to play.
