Meta Snapshot Summary
5/7: Set is winding down, so no update this week
Updated 4/29
This patch is the last ‘serious’ patch of Set 6.5. In 12.9 and 12.10, I’ve heard that they are going to introduce wild changes, so this is probably the last ‘stable’ patch of 6.5
NOTE: Augments greatly change the comp you run. For example if you get lots of emblems, you don’t need to run certain units or you chase an 8 or 9 synergy. Adaptation to your augments/items/units is key in Set 6.5

A Tier: Solid TFT Team Comps. Weaker, less flexible, requires more luck than S-Tier
Arcanist (Standard or Reroll) Ahri, Malz, or Viktor Carry
Last Week’s Rank: S
Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependency: Medium
Variance: High
Requirements:
- Good econ start so that you can reroll for Malz/Vex
Item Holder: Brand for damage, Swain for tank
How to Play:
Standard Leveling if playing for Ahri/Viktor
Reroll at level 7 for Malzahar and Vex 3. You can pick up Morgana 3 if available
Sometimes you need to stabilize at 3-2 at level 6 where you roll until you get Malzahar 2 and/or Vex 2. Do this if you are low HP or if you have both Malzahar and Vex pair.
NOTE: After mana changes, I still prefer Blue Buff vs Spear of Shojin for Malzahar. Your first cast is the same, next casts are slower, but Blue Buff is also better for Ahri, so I prefer Blue Buff over Shojin
(Blue Buff = 0 autos for first cast, 6 for second. Shojin = 1 auto for first cast, 5 autos for second)
Core: Malzahar, Vex, 4-6 Arcanist, 1 more tank unit
Augments: Blue Battery, Jeweled Lotus, Luden’s Echo, Portable Forge, Meditation, Celestial Blessing, Arcanist, Archangel’s
Counters

Khazix Items: BT/RFC/IE
Kaisa Items: Rageblade, Morello
Core: 2-3 Socialite
Augments: Socialite, Stand United, Luden’s, Disintegrator, Portable Forge, Weakspot
Counters
Mutant + Carry
Last Week’s Rank: B
Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependency: Low
Variance: High
Requirements:
Item Holder:
How to Play:
Slow Roll on level 7 for Malzahar and Cho’Gath 3 or just use Malzahar 2* and go 9
Alternatively is if you get a Mutant spatula, play around a 4 or 5 cost carry (non mutant) and put the spatula on them and itemize them. This will depend on the champion/mutant trait
Core: Malzahar, Cho’Gath, Kaisa, Rek’Sai, Kha’Zix
- Mutant Buffs: Depending on the buff you have, you will need to adjust your Items and Units (Kaisa can carry with all Mutant traits though 🙂 )
- Metamorphosis (Every two seconds Mutants grow, gaining bonuses that stack up to 5 times (Armor, MR, AD, AP))
- Malzahar is good with a Hextech Gunblade + Morello + AP item. Redemption Chogath is great
- Voracious Appetite (Mutants grow stronger each time an ally dies (AP and AD))
- Malzahar is good here. Zz’Rot is really good to get more value from the mutant trait since more units will die
- Synaptic Web (The abilities of Mutants cost less to cast),
- Blue Buff Malzahar is really good. Mutant Spatula is insane on units like Ahri
- Voidborne (Mutants Execute targets they damage who are below 20% Health. Mutants deal true damage)
- Well rounded trait and can do almost anything
- Bio-Leeching (Your team gains omnivamp)
- Great to splash into a non Mutant comp because it gives a ton of healing for only 3 units (Kaisa + 2)
- Cybernetic Enhancement (Mutants with at least 1 item gain bonus stats)
- Solid well rounded comp, good if you have multiple items for different carries
- Hyper-Adrenal Glands (Mutants’ basic attacks have a chance to trigger 2 additional basic attacks against their targets)
- Carry Chogath is really fun with AD items
- Metamorphosis (Every two seconds Mutants grow, gaining bonuses that stack up to 5 times (Armor, MR, AD, AP))
Augments: Underdogs, Mutant, Luden’s, Shrug it off, Archangel’s, Celestial, Electrocharge, Armor Plating, Second Wind

B Tier: Playable, but not Preferred. These comps could be strong if uncontested.
Sniper Jhin
Last Week’s Rank: A
Difficulty: High
Item/Augment Dependency: Medium
Variance: Medium
Requirements:
- A brain to make the most of the comp (see below)
Item Holder: Any 2* backline/ranged unit
How to Play:
Standard Leveling
Can play Bruiser frontline, or anything frontline. Super flexible comp.
The whole point of Jhin in patch 12.5 is to use him as a carry to flex. This means you can hit lots of random combinations of 2* units while using less gold than your opponents. This happens because you don’t need a set of 8 specific units, instead you really only need Jhin + Orianna + 1-3 tanks and 1-3 utility with 2 Sniper active. This means you can literally run anything and you will need to use your brain to make the most out of this comp. If you force this build, you might as well force something else.
Core: Jhin, Orianna,
Augments: Sniper, Weakspot, Clockwork
Counters
- Assassins
Hextech Sivir
Last Week’s Rank: A
Difficulty: Medium
Item/Augment Dependency: Medium
Variance: Low
Requirements:
- Sivir Items
Item Holder: Rek’Sai, any AD early game champ
How to Play:
Standard Leveling. Try to roll more on 7 than you normally would, then finish rolling on level 8
Can mix in more Strikers and random 2* legendaries or Silco
If you want to flex between Striker Sivir and Hextech Sivir, prioritize Guinsoo’s Rageblade
Sivir Items: Statikk Shiv, Quicksilver, Rageblade, Bloodthirster, Giantslayer, AD/AS items
Core: 6 Hextech
Augments: Hextech, Striker, Disintegrator, Celestial Blessing, Weakspot, Phalanx, Tiny Titans, Backfoot

TFT Items
Carousel Item Priority (Start of Game)
High Priority >>>> Low Priority
TFT Item Quadrant
The closer to the Top Right, the better and more versatile the item is. Avoid items on Bottom Left if possible.
Strength (y-axis) is based on how effective an item is in the situations where it is most used. Items that are strong at all stages of the game are listed higher.
Versatility (x-axis) is based on both the number of Compositions an item fits in and Champions an item is used on. Versatility is also how often you could build an item.
FAQ
- How are compositions ranked?
- There are many factors, but the two strongest ones are how often they can be played and how strong they are when you get it. Think of it like frequency of being played combined with how well it can potentially do.
- I also rank them based on how often the best players in the world play each comp (top 10 players in major regions)
- Why isn’t XYZ Comp here?
- Probably not played enough, not strong enough, or maybe it hasn’t been discovered yet and will hopefully be added next week.
- It’s also impossible to fit every single variation of every composition on a tier list, so expect variations of these comps to do well too.
- I also add in different versions of different comps in the notes, so be sure to read through them! (For example, one synergy might have two different playstyles such as reroll or standard)
- What does Difficulty, Item Dependency, and Variance mean?
- Difficulty is how hard the composition is to play. Difficulty does not factor into the strength or viability of the composition but serves as a factor for new players.
- Item dependency is how important specific items are to the composition.
- Variance is the approximate placement range of the composition. For example, a consistent Top 4 composition has Low variance. A composition that either places 1st or 8th has a High variance.
- Does what composition I play matter?
- No. Playing TFT well matters a lot more
- I can’t get these exact items every game
- You don’t need perfect items or exact items unless specified in the Requirements section. Most of the time you just need ‘playable’ items and not ‘best in slot’ (BIS)
- You are wrong, XYZ comp should be in S tier and ABC player said this S tier comp sucks
- Everyone has different opinions. I try to take a data based approach by analyzing games from the best players in each region to combine all their opinions.
- At the end of the day, comp doesn’t matter much compared to just playing TFT well (rolling, managing econ, positioning, etc). If you check out the best players, you will see that each player favors different compositions yet they are all very highly ranked.
- When is this site updated?
- Every Friday
- Where can I learn more?
- There are many resources and players to learn from. I suggest starting at my YouTube channel and this website.
Knowing how to get better at TFT is much more important than knowing what compositions to play. Knowing how to play Teamfight Tactics will help you no matter what patch it is.
Tier placement assumes strong play. Refer to Difficulty metric before attempting to play.
